Si-hi-ya

Hakan Ali Toker

2019

About the Project

Si-hi-ya is a concert project built on Hakan Ali Toker’s original style,
blending Western classical music, jazz, Chinese and Turkish influences.
Modern dance choreographed by Deniz Alp accompanies the music,
while Ergun Evren’s poem Si-hi-ya frames the performance.
Between pieces, excerpts from the poem are projected on screen,
and the foyer hosts a book stand featuring Ergun Evren’s poetry.

None of you will ever know Si-hi-ya
Nor will you learn it
Some of you will think it’s a city’s name
Or a homeland
And you will open your atlases, searching across oceans
India, China, Machin,
You will tear through histories
and you will not find it
